In most cases, the DJ will read the news during their show. It is important to keep in mind that news is not an editorial or an opinion - it is a straight presentation of the facts as you have them on the page in front of you. Never read the news with any slant or bias. If you choose to voice an opinion after the newscast, make sure that it is clear that the news is finished and that you follow the FCC rules on editorializing.
There are several lists posted both inside and outside of the station of the current DJ staff and their home phone numbers. If you need someone to cover a shift for you, it is your responsibility, not that of the Station Manager or Radio Lab Supervisor or Assistant, to find a replacement. If your show has a certain format, make your replacement aware of it, so that listeners will get what they expect when they tune in.
Since there are very few students on campus during breaks, (winter and summer), WFRScc does not use live talent during these periods. Holidays are open to the DJ's discretion; they are not obliged to show up, but if they want to do their show, they should arrange it in advance with the Station Manager.
